Edo-Period Traditional House as Lodging ”Hōjō Edo Machiya”
In the heart of Arita Town, a lodging called “Hōjō” opened in 2024.
It is a resident building constructed during the Edo period 180 years ago, and is one of the “Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings” in Arita Town.

A river flows nearby, and trees and flowers surround the area.
From Arita Station to the next station, Kami-Arita Station, the distance is 3.5 km east-west. Located almost exactly in the middle of those two stations, it offers convenient access to tourist spots and shopping.
The couple who runs this place are both artists, and primarily foreign tourists are expected to use the facility. The building also features a gallery showcasing their paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and other works.

They are also preparing to install a kiln for ceramic production, due to their plan to develop an artist-in-residence program for foreign artists.
When staying here, you can fully enjoy the atmosphere of a typical old Japanese house.
For dining, there is also a Japanese soba noodle restaurant next door, and an Italian pizza restaurant from the same chain is located nearby.
This October, they will open a Mexican restaurant after renovating the vacant house close-by.

Furthermore, by summer 2026, a cafe-restaurant and lodging facility will be completed after renovating two warehouses on the premises. When visiting Arita Town, please consider staying at“Hōjō”.
