How to identify important historic buildings
In 1991, the 2-kilometer-long townscape of the Arita Uchiyama district was designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings, and 161 buildings from the Edo era to the Showa era are eligible for preservation. It is easy to identify a building that is being preserved and how old it is.
The porcelain plate is a landmark.
A building with a plaque under the eaves or in front of the entrance indicates that it is a building to be preserved. The plaque is, of course, made of porcelain. It shows the era in which the building was built, and the number of the designation are written in blue by using Gosu.
The photo is on the front wall of the restaurant “Kasane”.
