Doll Festival in Arita(Hinamatsuri)

In Japan, March 3rd is the day of the Hinamatsuri (Doll Festival), which wishes for the healthy growth and happiness of girls. Originally, it is said that the origin of the hina doll was to pray for one’s own safety by transferring various unlucky events to the doll and washing it away in the river.

In Arita Town, the 21st “The Arita Hina Dolls Festival” is held from February 8th to March 9th 2025, and during this period, you can see various hina dolls made of porcelain at kilns and stores in the town.

In the building of the Arita Tourism Association, hina dolls from Kakiemon kiln, Koransha, and Meissen porcelain manufactory are displayed. Furthermore, at the Kyushu Ceramic Museum, you can see the world’s largest seven-tiered hina doll sets made of white porcelain.

In addition, there are many shops in the town that hang “Tsurushibina”(ornamental dolls) under the eaves, which entertain people who pass by.
Please come to Arita Town to see the hina dolls on a spring day!
